Associating an Attribute Type with an Object Type

You cannot set attribute values for an object until the attribute type has been associated with the object type.

Prerequisites

You must create an attribute type before you can associate it with an object type.

To associate an attribute type with an object type:

  1. Click Object Types to open the Object Types module.
  2. Select the object type to which you want to add an attribute type.

    Note

If you add the attribute to a parent object type, the attribute will be available to all the object type's sub-types.

On the Attributes tab for a sub-type, inherited attributes are shown with the Inherited checkbox selected.

  3. On the Attributes tab, click Insert to open the Inserting Attributes screen.
  4. Enter these details:
    PropertyDescription

    Attribute

Select the attribute that you want to use with this object type

    Sequence

Specify where on the list of object attributes this attribute will be displayed. Attributes with a smaller sequence number are displayed closer to the top of the list.

    Event Raised

Select this checkbox if you want to log any changes to the attribute value. See Viewing the History of an Attribute Value for more details.

  5. Click Save to save your changes.

You can now set values for this attribute for the object type and its sub-types.
