Identifying Sites and Tags in Imported Data

Identifying sites

You must provide site identification information in imported data files. Use the Site options in the Data Import form to identify the site using one of these methods:

  • Read from File Contents - Choose this option if you want to import tags from more than one site, or if you are using custom site codes to identify sites. You must include a data column that identifies the site such as a Site Name, Site ID or Site Code.

See Mapping Custom Site and Tag Codes for details of using a site code to provide site data.

  • Read from filename - Choose this option when you are importing data for a single site and the site name is the same as the import file name.
  • Choose - Choose this option when you are importing data for a single site and you want to select the site using the object chooser.

Identifying tags

When you import tag values, you must provide enough information for the system to identify which tags the values are for. Use one of the following options to identify tag values in your import file configuration:

  • Choose a specific tag
    1. Create a Tag Value data column and choose the Choose Tag option
    2. Click Search to open the Tag Chooser and choose a specific tag from the database

  • Specify the tag name and specify the site in another column
    1. Create a Tag Value data column and choose the Choose Tag Name option.
    2. Enter the tag name or click Search to search for valid tag names
    3. Specify the site to which the tag belongs by creating a Site Code, Site Name or Site ID column.

  • Use a separate column (or columns) to identify the tag
    1. Create a Tag Value data column and choose the Read tag ID or name from another column option
    2. Create a Tag ID column. In this case you do not need a site column

      or

Create a Tag Name, or a Mapping tag name attribute column. In this case you must also create a Site Code, Site Name or Site ID column to identify the site.

See Mapping Custom Site and Tag Codes for details of using a tag code to provide tag data.
