Manage Presets
Presets are control mode and setpoint changes that are programmed in advance to be set at a specific time. You can view and manage presents in the Presets Screen. Click the Presets button on the Site Summary screen to open the Presets screen.
You can set presets manually, or they may be written automatically to meet order requirements if the gate is using automatic control. Use the DMS Preset Comms Failures alarm on the Site Summary component to see if presets are being written correctly to automatically controlled gates.
Note
Presets are not executed while the gate is in Local Control mode. You can write Presets to a gate in Local Control mode, but they will not be executed unless the gate is returned to Remote control before the preset is due to be executed.
Layout of the Presets screen
This is a typical layout of the Presets screen for a site with a single gate:

- Required presets - this is where you create and edit presets. These presets will not run until they are sent to the RTU to become Current presets.
- Current presets. Any Enabled presets will run when the specified time is reached.
- Enable or disable preset functionality for this gate. If preset functionality is enabled, any Enabled presets are executed. If preset functionality is disabled, no presets are executed (even if they are individually enabled).
- Click to close the gate
- Send the Required presets to the RTU. Any Enabled presents will update the corresponding Current preset.
- Clear any Required presets. This does not affect the Current presets.
- Autofill the Required presets from any pending orders and then Send them to the RTU

Enabling and disabling presets
You can enable and disable all preset functionality for the gate,or enable or disable individual presets.
- Enabling preset functionality for the gate does not override any settings for individual presets. An individual preset that is disabled will not execute whether or not presets are enabled for the site.
- Disabling presets for the gate prevents all individual presets from executing whether or not they are individually enabled.
Caution
Be careful when disabling presets for the gate. For example, if you disable presets after a gate has opened, the preset action to close the gate will never execute.
Closing the gate
Use the Stop button on the Presets screen to override any presets and immediately close the gate.
Setting a Preset
When you open the Presets screen, the Required presets have the same settings as the Current presets. Edit or create presets in the Required panel of the Presets screen, then Send them to the RTU to update the list of current presets.
To create a new preset:
- In the Presets screen, ensure that presets are enabled for the gate. If presets are not enabled, click the Enable button at the top of the screen.
- Choose the preset to edit and select Enabled from the drop-down Status field.
- Select the control Mode for the preset from the drop-down list. For example, set the mode to FLOW to maintain a fixed flow rate, set the mode to POSITION to open the gate to a fixed position.
Note
If you set the mode to POSITION, this will apply to all gates at the site.
- Set the Time at which you want the preset to execute. Click the Time button for the Preset to open the Date and Time chooser. The Date and Time must be in the future. The times and dates are checked when you send the presets to the RTU.
Note
Ensure that the clocks on all computers that run the host software are “synced” with the server to ensure that the time check is valid.
- Enter the Setpoint for the preset. The units of the setpoint depend on the type of control mode that you chose.
Note
If you set the mode to TCC, you can enter a specific setpoint, or just set the setpoint to 0 to default to the existing setpoint configured for the site.
- Click Send to write your changes to the RTU. Wait and make sure that the Current presets are updated to show your changes.
Loading presets for orders
Click the Demand button in the Preset screen to load any presets required to meet pending orders. Calculated presets to meet the demand are loaded in the Required fields. Click Send to write these to the RTU.
Clearing presets
If you are unhappy with the presets that you have entered in the Required fields, click Clear to reset all the Required presets. This has no effect on the Current presets, it is just intended to quickly clear the preset fields so that you can enter the details again.
What happens when a preset fails?
If a preset is not successfully set, the transaction is retried after a configurable period. The retry delay increases at each failed retry with a maximum delay of one hour.
