Creating an Area
To create and configure an area:
Create the area
- Click Areas to open the Areas module.
- Click Add Area to create a new area.
- Enter an area Name, and if you have defined area types, choose a Type from the drop-down list.
- Click Save to save your changes.
You must set the Up boundaries for an area, because you must specify a starting point for network traversal, but specifying the Down boundaries is optional
- In the Areas > Boundaries tab, click Edit to make the boundaries editable.
- Click Add to open the Add Boundaries screen.
- Select the Regulator that you want to add as a boundary for the area.
- Specify the boundary direction:
- Up - the regulator is at the upstream border of the area
- Down - the regulator is at the downstream border of the area.
- If the regulator will be a top regulator, select the Top Regulator checkbox. See What is a Top Regulator?
- (Optional) Set the Sequence Number. This is used to order the results in some reports (for example, the Meter Reading report).
- Create as many boundaries as you need, then click Save to save your changes.
Generate and view the area
- Choose Area > Generate from the module menu to generate the area. This traverses the area and determines what objects are included in the area.
- Click View in Network: to view the area in the Network Schematic.
- Check the area to confirm that the boundaries are correct and that all the appropriate objects are included.
Set authorities for the area
Set the appropriate authorities for the type of area. For example, set PLANNER authority for planning areas, or FIELD OPERATOR authority for field areas.
- In the Areas > Authority tab, click Insert to open the Insert Authority screen.
- Select the Role for this authority.
- Select the Party to whom the authority belongs, or enter ALL PARTIES.
- Click Save to save your changes.
