Creating a Relation Type
The application is supplied with a set of relation types for special purposes but you can create custom relation types to create links between objects, including group objects.
Note
You cannot create new relation types between Parties, only between objects.
To create and configure a relation type:
Create the relation type
- Click
Relation Types to open the Relation Types module. - Click Insert and enter a unique name for the relation type.
- Click Save to save your changes.
Add the relation type to a pair of object types
A relation type links two objects together. One object is the super object, and the other is the sub object in the relationship. You must specify what object types can use the custom relation type, and how they will be related, before you can create any relationships.
- Click
Object Types to open the Object Types module. - Select one of the object types that will use this relation type.
- On the Relations tab, click Insert to open the Inserting Relations screen.
- Fill in the relation details as follows:
Property Description Object Type
Specify whether the selected object type is to be the Super Type or the Sub Type in the relationship.
Relation Type
Select the relation type from the drop-down field.
Sub Type/Super Type
Specify the other object type in the relationship. This will have the opposite role to the one you chose for the selected object type.
The relation type will also apply to any subtypes of this object type.
- Click Save to save your changes.
You can now use this custom relation type to create relationships between objects.
