Using the Grid

Display a grid as a drawing guide when you are creating a network with the network editor. Objects can be snapped to the grid to make it easier to align objects and draw a tidy network.

The grid is not visible when other users are viewing the network schematic.

Note

Typically you should leave the snapping feature on. However, if you are working with a network that was not originally aligned to the grid, or if you need to place an object precisely, you can turn the snapping function off either temporarily or permanently.

Setting up the Grid

To set up the grid:

  1. From the Network Editor menu, choose View > Grid Setup to open the Grid Setup screen.
  2. Enter the following details:
    FieldDescription

    Horizontal

Spacing of the horizontal grid lines. For most networks, a grid spacing of 500 x 500 is suitable.

    Vertical

Spacing of the vertical grid lines

    Display Grid

Show or hide the grid lines in the Network Editor

    Snap Grid

Forces object connections to be placed at the intersections of grid lines. When you place a new network object, the object connections will snap to the nearest grid intersection.
  3. Click OK to save your changes.

Why can't I see the grid?

If you can't see the grid, try these troubleshooting steps:

  • Choose View > Grid Setup from the menu to display the Grid Setup dialog. Ensure that the Display Grid checkbox is selected.
  • Zoom in - the Network Editor will not display the grid if there are too many grid lines to display. This means that if you zoom out far enough the grid will no longer be displayed. You can increase the spacing of the grid lines in the Grid Setup dialog.
