Connecting Network Objects
Objects must be connected to the network to become network objects. The Network Editor includes tools to create and break connections, and to check the connectivity of individual nodes and of larger parts of the network.
Network objects can be connected as part of the drawing process, or connected later using the connection menu options.
- Reaches, regulators and outlets can be connected when you place them. However, they may be connected or reconnected later. It is good practice to create connections explicitly, rather than try to create them automatically when you place the objects
- Properties are placed, and then connected to outlets after they are in place.
To connect an outlet to a reach:
- In the Network Editor, click on the outlet to select it.
- Right-click and choose Connect. The pointer changes to a + crosshair
- Click the reach at the point where you want to create the connection.
To connect a property to an outlet:
- In the Network Editor, click on the property that you want to connect. The property icon outline changes to a dashed line.
- Right-click and choose Connect. The cursor pointer changes to a + crosshair.
- Click on the outlet that you want to connect.
This procedure creates an Authorisation, which is a relationship between a property and an outlet.
To connect a reach or a regulator:
- In the Network Editor, click on the node that you want to connect.
- Right-click and choose Connect. The cursor pointer changes to a + crosshair.
- Click to select the node to which you want to connect. This must be a node at the end of a reach or regulator.
