Associating a Role with an Object Type
You cannot apply an authority for a role to an object unless the role has been associated with the object type or with a parent object type. By default, new roles are associated with suitable object types for using the application interface, but you may also want to give access to other objects such as network object types.
To associate a role with an object type:
- Click Object Types to open the Object Types module.
- In the tree view, select the object type that you want to associate with the role.
- On the Roles tab, click Insert. The Inserting Roles dialog pops up.
- Select the Role that you want to associate with this object type.
Note
If you add the role to a parent object type, it will be available to all the object type's sub-types.
On the Roles tab for a sub-type, roles that were inherited from a parent type are shown with the Inherited checkbox selected. - Select the Unique checkbox if only one party with this role can be granted authority over each specific object of this type.
Example
You could require that only one OWNER be given authority for a water account.
- Click Save to save your changes.
You can now add authorities for objects of this type to the role. See Creating an Authority for an Object for more information.
