Shelving and Unshelving Alarms

What is alarm shelving?

Shelving is a way of suppressing alarm actions for a tag. You can shelve alarms for any tag for a specified period.

Example

You might shelve alarms if you know that the site is undergoing maintenance and you don't want to be bothered by excessive alarm notifications.

The alarms will still be triggered while they are shelved, but no alarm actions will be performed - for example, no alarm notifications will be sent. When the alarms are unshelved alarm actions will recommence.

Note

If an alarm was triggered during the shelving period and is still active when the alarms are unshelved, the actions for that alarm will be applied immediately.

Who can shelve alarms?

You must have the SHELVING role to be able to shelve alarms.

How are alarms unshelved?

When you shelve alarms for a tag, you must specify the length of the shelving period. At the end of the shelving period, the alarms are automatically unshelved. You can also manually change the shelving period, or immediately unshelve the alarms.

Auditing and reporting on alarm shelving

Alarm shelving events are tracked in the data audit log which is available in the host applications in the Data Audit Log module. There is also an Alarm Shelving Report available in DMS. See Alarm Shelving Report for details.
